Just Kids - Patti Smith

This is the story of a friendship and also a love affair, between poet, musician, artist Patti Smith and artist/photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, that starts in 1967 and continues up until Mapplehorpe's death in 1989. It's a bittersweet story of two kids who wanted to make art and meet their heroes. For the most part they achieved those, and more. At it's heart Smith's book is about the love between two people that endures everything that life brings. Smith chronicles the many people she met, the experiences they had, and the life they led, from penniless nobodies to famous somebodies. It reads like a love letter to her late friend, and the world they inhabited.
